Signing of the contribution agreement between the Russian Federation and
the United Nations for the Ebola Response Multi Partner Trust Fund (MPTF)
Today the Russian
Federation signed a contribution agreement for 1 million US Dollars for the
Secretary-General’s Ebola Multi-Partner Trust Fund. The Trust Fund has been
established by the UN Secretary-General to respond to the current situation
created by the deadly Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa. The contribution
from the Russian Federation is the first contribution to the Recovery Window of
the Trust Fund and is only one part of the assistance the
country has been providing to Guinea, Sierra-Leone and Liberia in combating
Ebola and its effects bilaterally and through the UN organizations. The overall
volume of the Russian assistance to the crisis is approximately 40 million US
Dollars.
The agreement is signed by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Mr.Vitaly I. Churkin, and the Trust Fund Administrator, the Assistant Administrator and Director of the Bureau of Management of the United Nations Development Programme, Mr. Jens Wandel, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Ebola, Dr. David Nabarro.
